We all have gotten word of Stuff White People Like and Stuff Educated Black People Like and we love it! However, we know that people are just as curious about Chicanos as they are about white and black people. The problem is that not ALL Chicanos are the same things. Why, you ask? The answer is simple…. It’s because there are two types of Chicanos in this world–the educated and the uneducated (and those from New Mexico, but that’s a different blog all together).
As educated Chicanos, we will shed some insight on the things we like. However, this site is to be taken lightly–it’s an amalgamation of reality, comedy and parody! For all of you that aren’t educated enough to understand: it’s just jokes. It’s for hoots. It’s for chistes. If you are bothered by reading it, don’t. And get lost.
Most of the stuff is TRUE, so check back everyday to see if we post something that describes you. Leave us a comment! We’d love to write about stuff our educated readers like. Also, please don’t get upset if we don’t post something you request immediately — we’re either at work or at school getting an education.
- STUFF EDUCATED CHICANOS LIKE
(thanks to the site “stuff educated black people like”…like rock-n-roll, we had to “borrow” from you again)
Dude crazy ass chicano mechistas who dont graduate from college?? fuck you dude im at UC Berkeley applying to law school and a mechista. Let me guess… you are stupid ass chicano who only got in to state universities, was not in mecha cant go to grad school and is bitter at those crazy as mechistas who will be making 100k while you make 35k a year. (if your’re lucky)
Eric,
You haven’t been back in a while. We miss you.
EC posse.
I’m back. The site looks ok, but calm down with the mechista bashing. Oh and to the comment under me, can you hook me up with a job? I’m about to finish up my senior year, and taking a year off grad school.
Dude, im always high son. Telegraph has more smoke shops than Columbia has good professors. Ouch….
Whatever. The site kicks ass, if we say so ourselves. And we’re not MEChA bashing. Just speaking the truth. MEChistas are cool. We just wish some of you fools would graduate, stop acting all Aztec, stop over Spanish-pronouncing your 4th generation Mexican-American names, and take a bath. Other than that, we support you.
Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley has more smoke shops than Columbia has good professors? Wow. Must make you proud. I’m sure that’s what going to college was all about, you know, getting high and stuff. (And we wonder why we’re clueless at times when we keep losing our land…)
Uh???? Isn’t Berkeley a state school?
In CA there’s three higher education systems: the UCs, the Cal States, then the community colleges. Berkeley is a University of California school, in the UC system. The “state universities” referred to are the Cal State University system.
Naw dawg. Went to Columbia University and I’m doing well in Massachusetts. Need a job? Let me know and I’ll hook you up (when you’re not high).
Damn looks like eric the crazy ass chicano mechista forgot to read the ABOUT section of this blog. Whats the deal with all of the CLASS-BASED confrontation, arguing about salaries? I though Chicanos were supposed to be DOWN for the community, not criticizing others based on Salary!?
But you know what they say, you don’t become a Chicano ’til you go to College! (including community college).. BY the way, there are Chicanos in Massachusetts??JK!
COOL BLOG DUDE
Enjoyed these! I might add “Being more Mexican than our parents”– I don’t know how many of us grew up hearing our names as “Garsha” and (in my case) “Ayle-man” and thinking nothing of it, but now I’m bringin’ the accent back in ah-lay-MAHN… and even though our parents named us stuff like “Michael” and “Russell”, you know we’re trying to name our kids “Cuauhtemoc” and “Guadelupe”… but anyway, thanks for posting this on my friend’s facebook wall, made me laugh.
excellent observations and funny as hell.
why are the ones from new mexico different?
Why? ‘Cuz all those fools think they’re descendents of Spanish conquistadors, that’s why. They all say they’re related to Oñate, but all we see is Geronimo when we look at them. They even have their own name for themselves: “Hispanos.”
Whatever. They be brown like that rest of us. No different.
Laughed my ass off. I know a bunch of crazy ass chicano mechistas who don’t graduate from college… made me laugh some more.
I was in mecha at one point… a good stepping point before I realized they were stuck in the past handing out the Plan de Santa Barbara like it was the Bible.
Finishing my Ph.D. next year. Sadly I’ve been almost #1-10 at some point!
Any plans to add more?
We’re back brother! Just added a new one. Thanks for stopping by…and send us your ideas!

Go ahead and use what you need, big dawg. Thanks for the shout out.
How about “randomly inserting the occasional Spanish word into an English sentence in order to sound like you know how to speak Spanglish.”
Great idea! Coming soon…
Morrales! Loving 80s rock en espaniol (Hombres G to Enanitos Verdes) from countries other than Mexico! Debating whether Mana is still relevant! For the californians, regional pride (NorCal v. SoCal).
Thanks! We gotta get some of this in…
Heh I laugh and am guilty at the same time!!
LOL!!! “crazy ass chicano mechistas who dont graduate from college”??? I am in MEChA and know a few of those guys…most of us mechistas do graduate though (I’m walking in two weeks, chooow!). And all of us LOVE our conferences/conventions, boycotting shit, debating about labels & identity and of course, Salma Hayek (some people say I look like her)…. funny shit
but hey, how bout flea markets? marches/rallies? car tattoos?
How about Virgen de Guadalupe paraphernalia, even though you don’t believe in Catholicism anymore and/or haven’t been to church in yearssssss.
Shhhhhhh!!!! Don’t give away a good one. You know this one is coming.
Seems to me like truly educated Chicanos wouldn’t rush to make a distinction between themselves and “uneducated” Chicanos. Sounds like that Ivy League education has gone to your heads, in a bad way. I’m pretty sure the website wasn’t “Stuff *Educated White People Like.” So Chicanos aren’t the equals of (no adjective here) white people? But hey, maybe you should just add “hating on less educated brown people” as the next thing *educated* chicanos like. As my mamá (who, by your standards, is uneducated) would say, “que mal educados”…
Damas y Caballeros…introducing Rev. Holy-Than-Thou-Chicano. The ECH who rags on other ECHs for the subculture they created after getting their degrees. Never mind they’re the only ones in their office/department/newsroom/classroom/hospital/studio. ECHs are no different than our cholo cousins, the reverend says. So quit acting like there are differences. Don’t front. Just listen to these conversations
*****
Scene #1. ECH stockbroker and unemployed cholo cuz
On steps of Montebello, California house. Car alarm goes off in background.
ECH stockbroker: What’s going on carnal, er, bato, uh, cousin?
Unemployed cholo: Damn, dawg. What’s wrong with you? You forgot how to talk? Dumb ese…
ECH stockbroker: Hahaha…uh. naw. Just tired. I lost all my money today after buying stock in newspaper companies. Kay dumb, no?
Unemployed cholo: Stuuuuuupid. What? you got to school to get stupid? Every vato knows google and overseas markets is the way to go. You went to school to get dumb, eh? I’ll still kick your ass.
Scene #2 ECH history professor vs. sister-who-watches-maury-all-day.
Inside Laredo, Texas home during Christmas break. Helicopter flies over.
ECH history professor: Hi sis. Wow, it’s great to be home.
Sister-who-watches-maury-all-day: Shhhhhh! Don’t come in here all talking and shit. Can’t you see I’m about to see who the father is? You always talk too much.
ECH history professor: I’m sorry. I’m sorry, hermana. It’s just that I’m all stressed out about my tenure and all. I’m up for review–
Sister-who-watches-maury-all-day: Tenure? I thought you’ve been there only 5 years? Quit lying. See you always lie!
ECH history professor: No. That’s not what I meant. You see tenure is….never mind. I guess I’ll go in the back and grade these papers.
Sister-who-watches-maury-all-day: There you go again. Judging other people all the time. No wonder nobody don’t talk to your ass no more.
BTW Rev. We got the idea for our kickass blog from black people, as in the blog Stuff Educated Black People LIke. And we aren’t hating on non-ECHs. We’re hating on ourselves. (Kinda like I just hated on you.)
besos,
SECL Editors
Gotta laugh at ourselves.I’m sure Lalo Alcaraz got $hit for what he writes. George Lopez is one of the richest Chicano’s in Hollywood and made a living from this (and using the word Chicano). It’s funny when folk criticizing you need to let you know what degrees they are getting and where they are from. It’s tought being an ECH, especially when you leave the comforts of Aztlan. Blogman, got a couple of ideas, will hit you up later. Gotta run… My co-workers wants me to give him a list of the best Mexican restaurants. I told him, my Mom’s house (to increase my authenticity), that was a lie, my mom is 3rd Generation and uses Las Palma’s.
Wait…Las Palma’s ISN’T authentic?! Shit…
BTW, I was and proud to have been a MEChista, still working for movimiento, think the Plan de Santa Barbara was a pretty cool document for it’s time and usefull in many ways now..but come on…we all know “THAT” guy!
hmm, what about all of us brown people who are not of mexican background? is there any site that includes all latinos, not just mexicans? it would be nice to find. either way, i find this site pretty entertaining.
Yep. There’s http://stuffeducatedlatinoslike.wordpress.com/, and a few others. But honestly, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, we’re a lot more funnier, if not more accurate.
Found you on my facebook friend’s page.
Loved the entries.
Great Site!!! 2 Issues I have…
1) MORE POSTS!!! I’d love to see more material–and off the top of my head I can think of some good “stuff” for this site. Let me know if you need help keeping it up; and how some of us fans can contribute.
2) ANGRY CHICAN@S: Some people just need to chill out and have a laugh at their expense. Educated chican@s can have a sense of humor too, no?
We got it, vato! Been away(s) for a while. Check out the new post today. Chale (Harvard)
Bashing on Taco Bell for not being Mexican food and telling your white friends that real Mexican food exists at your home.
And then inviting them to eat at your house and you serve pasta ‘cuz it’s cheaper to make. Awesome.
Big plans to open a tequila bar/”Latin” nightclub/cafe/bookstore/cultural center with your fellow ECHs that never come to fruition!
Dia de los muertos
Fighting over relics from la causa that your parents forgot in some drawer in their suburban house.
Yes! Crazy ECHs trying to develop plans for the Frida-themed coffee shop where you’ll have only “socially conscious ” artist perform, not to mention the slam poets with the dreds.
And wait…those are relics in the drawer?!
keep up the good work. here are 2 issues for you 1) making wack-ass altars and expecting people to be impressed with your art. okay you took some old photos of your grandfather, some candles, some flowers and an old six pack of coors and put them on a table. that doesn’t make you an “artist”. 2) defining chicanismo by looking in the mirror. some people see everyone more chicano than themselves as unrealistic radicals everyone not as chicano as them as a sellout. only they have the true balance of enlightened raza pride.
Damn, coors and candles. I especially like the bottle caps glued on some board that spells out a deep word like “Think” or “Rebel” or “Fight.” Don’t forget the smoke smelly stuff and the new age trio music in the background.
Hey I have some propaganda for all the Educated Chicanos in L. A. Educated Chicanos love the “golden age” of Mexican cinema and there are still tickets available for Flor Silvestre at the Million Dollar Theater on June 23rd. With the Mexican Revolution of 1910 as a backdrop, this legendary film was directed by Emilio “El Indio” Fernández. Starring Dolores Del Rio and Pedro Armendariz this is a drama of romance, idealism and passion for the self and for a cause. With cinematograpy by Gabriel Figueroa. In Spanish with English subtitles for all the Pochos.
hey what’s going on. we want new “stuff”. don’t make me go down there and organize a picket outside your apartment like it was a safeway in the 70′s.
Great blog, (and actually funny!) keep up the good work!
How about you talk about how ECH’s like to listen to old school music: “mariachi,” “rancheras,” etc. you know the stuff our parents use to listen to. But now they only listen to it alone or when hanging out around family. If they happen to stumble across the music in public they want to sing along but never manage to get all the words right so they lip sing. ha
